The National Alliance for Public Charter Schools is the national nonprofit organization committed to advancing the charter school movement. Our ultimate goal is to increase the number of high-performing charter schools available to all families, particularly low-income and minority families who currently don't have access to quality public schools. The Alliance provides assistance to state charter school associations and resource centers, develops and advocates for improved public policies, and serves as the united voice for this large and diverse movement.

The Alliance is governed by its board of directors, 24 of the nation's most knowledgeable and experienced charter school leaders who represent all segments of the movement. Nelson Smith, serves as Alliance president, providing day-to-day leadership and management of the organization. Our offices are located in Washington, DC.

Charter schools give parents greater say in the education of their children, offer educators freedom from burdensome rules and regulations, and ensure accountability for student learning. The Alliance believes strongly that the increased educational innovation, parental choice, and administrative freedom provided by charter schools will improve student academic achievement and generate much-needed reforms in the traditional public school system.
